Bangladesh Health Cost Study

The enormous burden of deaths and disabilities caused by tobacco-induced diseases cost the economy of Bangladesh BDT 305.6 billion (USD 3.6 billion), equivalent to 1.4% of the national output (GDP) in 2017-18. Tobacco-attributable diseases caused nearly 126,000 deaths in 2018, accounting for 13.5% of all-cause deaths in the population.

The Bangladesh Cancer Society, in collaboration with the University of Dhaka, the American Cancer Society, and Cancer Research United Kingdom, revealed these findings on February 23, 2019.
